46,847 SFSituated on a forested site with expansive mountain views, Wickiup Station is a new, 39-unit affordable housing project serving families, seniors, and veterans in the Central Oregon town of La Pine. The butterfly-shape of the building, with dramatic peaking roofs, gives the project a distinctly contemporary aesthetic paired with warm, natural materials and colors. Accessibility is a major priority in the design, with living units designed well beyond standard code to anticipate and fully accommodate the varied needs of disabled veteran residents.

Deeply influenced by the local landscape and climate, enclosed breezeways and deep overhangs at entrances enhance resident safety, security, and comfort. These features maintain circulation during heavy winter snowfall and provide climate-controlled connections between buildings.
The project is targeting Earth Advantage Platinum certification, with an optimized, highly-efficient building envelope that provides a high-degree of thermal control and a large photovoltaic (PV) array. The design also includes a cold attic design that reduces cooling requirements in the summer and eliminates ice damming in the winter.
