“Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion:” Women’s History Month 2024

March 12, 2024

At LRS, there is no shortage of accomplished women architects, designers, and professionals forging new paths through our industry and lifting one another up as they go. As we reflected on the 2024 theme for Women’s History Month, “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion,” we thought about the ripple effect this kind of advocacy has on the people, organizations, and communities around it. This kind of advocacy is not exclusively a top-down phenomenon – remarkable individuals can pave the way to equity in the built environment at every stage in their careers, from every level of their organizations.

This Women’s History Month, we’re reflecting on what it means to be a majority women-owned firm in an industry in which women have historically been underrepresented. We’ll be taking opportunities to recognize the many women who contribute so much to making LRS an exceptional place – inspiring our firm to think bigger and better, and always extending a hand to those who follow in their professional footsteps.

We are constantly inspired by those who pave the way towards achieving equity in the built environment. We hope you’ll join us this month as we share perspectives from our LRS staff about what it means to them to work for a majority women-owned architecture firm, their hopes for our industry, and their appreciation for the women leaders, mentors, and colleagues at LRS who have shaped their careers.

What happens when leadership is committed to nurturing the growth and advancement of women within the firm?

An abundance of immensely talented women architects and designers emerge and take on leadership roles at all levels of the organization, across all studios, and specializing in all aspects of the work.

In 2024, women hold 68% of LRS Architects’ ownership. Three of our four Managing Principals are women, our firm President is a woman, and women hold five Principal and Associate Principal positions.

In our experience, this has helped to attract even more remarkable people to our staff, making LRS unique in our region.
