Parkview Terwilliger Plaza, a Senior Living high-rise in Portland, Oregon was sustainably-designed with Passive House Principals. Breaking ground in late Spring of 2021, Parkview is designed with an outdoor courtyard and amenity space, while also providing residents with stunning views of downtown, mountains, wooded hillsides, and the Willamette River. Passive House standards promote comfortable, high quality, and highly efficient buildings to reduce energy use in the building sector, and reflect the client’s commitment towards environmental stewardship.

The sustainably designed, 326,000 SF high-rise building is projected to use 50% less energy than current energy compliant buildings. Entry saving features include the following:

Green roof: Extends the life of the roof, but increases insulation qualities and improves stormwater management.

Thermal bridge-free detailing: Reduces heat transfer between exterior and interior spaces with higher quality window frames and wall framing strategies.

Heat recovery ventilation: Supplies 100% fresh air with a 90% efficient energy recovery system.

Solar panels: Improves building resiliency.

Air tight construction: Increases energy savings, creates quieter spaces, and minimizes drafts.

Energy efficiency: LED lighting, high-energy efficiency appliances, heat pump furnaces, and heat pump driers reduce energy use without sacrificing comfort and amenities.

Building Envelope: A super-insulated building envelope includes R-34 wall insulation and R-60 roof insulation.

High performance openings: Triple glazing, multi-point latching insulated frames, and sunshades are included in high-performance windows and door systems.

Currently Parkview Terwilliger Plaza is the largest senior living Passive House project in the United States and the largest Passive House project in the Western United States! The project is estimated to complete construction in 2023.
