398,794 SFLocated on an unusual panhandle-shaped site with many large Ponderosa pine trees, Trinity Place is a new, three-story affordable housing community in the Central Oregon town of Sisters. Designed with a strong focus on accessibility, sustainability, and resilience, the development offers 40 homes with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. A significant portion of the homes are reserved for local wildfire firefighters and their families.
The design takes inspiration from the landscape and the community’s deep connection to the forest, with deep green color-blocking and timber accents. The aesthetic of the community room, with soaring ceilings and an abundance of natural daylight, takes inspiration from the nave of the nearby church that contributed the land.
Trinity Place stands out for its commitment to resilience. Designed for a fire-prone region, it features fire-resistant materials and defensible space landscaping. A five-foot buffer around the building uses gravel and rock in place of flammable mulch while trees and shrubs are carefully spaced to reduce the risk of fire spread, following Oregon Department of Forestry guidelines.
Solar panels with battery backup support the project’s LEED Gold goals and provide reliable power during outages, ensuring the community room remains a safe zone in emergencies.
